WILL DOWNING interview!

September 15, 2010

Also online today is a brilliant interview on soulmusic.com where David Nathan talks to Will Downing about his new album Lust Love & Lies.

Says Will on still being in the game after 22 years:

“ Well you know what, I’ve been very fortunate to still be in this industry. I mean, as you just said, there’s a lot of my contemporaries who I started out the race with who are no longer performing. And some of them are no longer with us in general, so I’m grateful to be alive and grateful to still be active, doing what I do. I think the one thing that has sustained me is the one thing that I’ve always—that I used to fight with the record company in the early part of my career, was staying the course. You know, when the musical styles changed, I kind of stayed with what I knew my strengths were, which is kind of singing, you know, ballads or singing more soulful songs… just staying the course. I’ve always kind of meshed jazzy elements to an R&B/soulful sound, and that’s been my sound and I’ve stayed the course. And fortunately, I’ve always had one or two songs per project that people around the world could identify with, and it’s kind of helped me maintain.”

RICHARD EARNSHAW talks to Soul.com

August 4, 2010

Richard Earnshaw recently sat down with the mighty David Nathan from Soul.com, to talk in-depth about his brilliant album In Time, which features the likes of Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayers and Carlene Anderson among others.

Says Richard on working with the legendary Jocelyn Brown:

“Yes, she came down. Came down to the flat, sang the flipping place to the ground, and probably entertained a lot of the people in Chichester at the time as well, because the windows were open and it was very warm! And uh, yeah, that was an incredible experience.”

Wow! Would loved to have been a neighbour during that session!
