When the McKoy family – south London born siblings Cornell, Junette, lead singer Noel, and Robin – burst on to the British soul scene in 1989, they created a legacy for serious soul fans throughout the next decade and beyond. McKoy’s critically acclaimed debut album, “Family”, delivered a number of street-soul classics and their hit singles I’m Lucky and Family remain a hit with analogue, digital and underground music connoisseurs of all ages.
Front-family member Noel McKoy has been described as “the genuine godfather of British soul – a singer-songwriter with a voice like honey whose long and distinguished career has seen him working with some of the biggest names within his chosen genres.” His voice has been compared to a young Bobby Womack and his ‘old-skool/nu-skool’ vocal range and beauty is reminiscent of Marvin Gaye or Maxwell.
At the Electric Brixton 29th November, McKoy will perform material from their new album “Cut From the Same Cloth”, a 13-track set written and produced by Noel McKoy. The album features raw emotion (title track Cut From the Same Cloth); uplifting dance floor soul (Love is the Key); classic soul (Making Love) and a funk-soul-reggae influence (Highways of My Life). It will be available online from 3.12.12 and in specialist outlets from 17.12.12.
Noel says: “For those who know, soul is what you feel not what you hear. We’re looking forward to sharing some memories – and an audience who will definitely know their stuff! – with the incredible Kool & the Gang.”

EP no’1. is the debut from Root and Groove Element.
This four track double 7″ showcases Root & Groove Element’s best tracks so far. “Whatever Happened To Honesty” and “Moving On” will be sure to bring back happy memories of the late 80s / early acid jazz / nu-Brit soul scene with their Brand New Heavies / Young Disciples style soul-jazz / jazz-funk grooves. A killer. “Soul Food” has an early 80s 2-step soul vibe to it – another wonderful track. Lastly “Sunshine” is a laid back easy-like-a-Sunday-morning soul-jazz shimmy with a hint of Roy Ayers.
