Will Downing, the Prince of Sophisticated Soul (we’re all about the plaititudes at Soul Food today), is back and firing on all cylinders with his new album Classique, out now on Concord/Universal.
Following 2007′s awe-inspiring set After Tonight, Classique is another remarkable record and a testament of Will’s artistry where timeless meets modern day, giving birth to a sound that feels both familiar and brand new.
In short, it’s killer, and no more so than on lead cut Something Special which combines both summer BBQ vibes with some MFSB-inspired soul.

With Phil Perry from Montclairs on production duties, every cut on the record hits the spot, from a stirring remake of the Originals’ classic Baby I’m For Real, the David Ruffin jewel Statue Of A Fool, and Let’s Make It Now, a lyrical love letter and tribute to the Maestro of Love himself, Barry White.
Will’s currently touring the record with some select dates Stateside this fall. Hopefully it’s only a matter of time until he returns to the UK for some long-awaited shows.
Classique is out now.
