Radio 2 presents In Search of Mimi!

November 23, 2010

In Search of Mimi: for BBC Radio 2

TX date: Mon 29th Nov 2010, 22.03 – 23.00.

Presenter: Trevor Nelson

Producer: Sarah Thompson

In Search of Mimi is a detailed and intimate look at the life and times of Mariah Carey whose career has so far spanned twenty years. We’ll get to know the real Mariah Carey, away from the sugary image and diva demands – this programme paints a picture of a person very different to the image of the ice-queen we’ve been fed in the past.

Trevor Nelson traces her extraordinary career from the moment she got signed, to her first single Vision of Love, and her MTV Unplugged sessions which showed the world her tremendous vocal range that would be talked about for decades to come. As we trace her careers ups and downs, we’ll hear the music that made her famous such as ‘Emotions’ and ‘Fantasy.’ as well as the lesser known tracks that Mariah cherishes as some of her favourite pieces of work like ‘Underneath The Stars’ and ‘The Roof.’

We hear from her colleagues and close friends along the way including her video directing collaborator Brett Ratner who sheds light on working with her on set of her music videos “We’re like two kids in a candy store.” We hear about her antics on tour, and in the studio from her back-up singers Trey Lorenz and Mary Ann Tatum, while her close friend Jasmine Dotiwala talks about being on holiday in fabulous destinations with Mariah and her real character behind closed doors.

We also hear from her Executive Producer and head of Island Def Jam records, L.A Reid. And Lee Daniels, the director of the award winning film, Precious in which Mariah recently appeared, talks about choosing her for the part of Ms.Weiss, how she adapted to the character and worked on set without a huge entourage!

Most importantly Mariah Carey herself gave producer, Sarah Thompson an intimate interview recently in New York City, she was one of only five journalists chosen from around the globe. Mariah talks candidly about her background, the stories behind some of her personal favourite songs, her struggles with her identity and her love for Hip Hop. She speaks openly and honestly about her lack of control at the beginning of her career and how her sense of humour has got her through the darkest times in her life.

As Mariah gets set to release her latest album Merry Christmas II You, we also hear from her and her friends how they spend Christmas together and hear tracks from the record whilst we find out what’s next for one of the biggest selling female artists of all time.

Vicki Wickham’s Sixties on BBC Radio 2

June 1, 2010

Here’s something special to listen out for on Radio 2 tonight at 10pm – Eyewitness to History: Vicki Wickham’s Sixties…

As part of Radio 2’s 60s Season, this is a first-hand account from Vicki Wickham, who edited the cult television programme Ready Steady Go! and, later, managed Dusty Springfield and Labelle.

This is Vicki’s take on the Swinging 60s, with further contributions from the trendsetters who were there, when they were young and starting their careers. Reminiscing about the 60s with Vicki are Dionne Warwick, Martha Reeves, Roger Daltrey, Eric Burdon, and PP Arnold. Expect insider stories, fun revelations and great music.

Sounds brilliant!

If you miss the show you can catch it on the iPlayer for the next 7 days:
